Many people now understand the multiple health risks of excessive weight gain and obesity. And they know that regular exercise is one of the best ways to keep their weight in check. However, finding some time out of their tight schedules to engage in some exercise remains a big challenge for them.

  1. Eat slow digesting foods

White grain products, such as spaghetti and sandwich digest quickly, which means you’ll go hungry again very soon after eating such foods. And this will prompt you to eat more frequently than normal.

To keep your weight in check and shed excess fats, take foods that take longer to digest, such as whole grains, vegetables, and foods rich in dietary fiber. Such foods will keep your metabolism busier and keep you feeling full for longer hours.

  1. Limit your calories

You gain weight simply because you take more calories every day than your body requires. This prompts your body to store the extra calories as excess fat, which adds to your weight.

So, if you’re looking to lose weight, you need to figure out how much calories your body needs per day. This hinges on your weight and amount of activity you engage in every day. After knowing your daily calorie requirement, ration your food so you don’t take any extra calories.

To implement this effectively, you’ll need a weighing scale and a table showing the calorie content of the various foods you take regularly.

  1. Drink water only

You’d be amazed at how much calories you can get from soft drinks, energy drinks, and beverages. Taking these drinks regularly causes rapid weight gain. So, you need to cut them out if you’re looking to lose weight or keep your weight in check.

Let water be your only drink! Aside containing no calories that will add to your weight, water improves metabolism and helps eliminate excess fluid from your body.

If you find drinking only water too boring, you can improve its taste by adding some lemon juice or mint. But don’t ever succumb to the urge to drink something else.

  1. Increase your activity

Sedentary lifestyle is another reason why people now gain weight rapidly. So, if you want to keep your weight within healthy limits, you need to be more active.

If you need to do some grocery shopping, walk down to your local grocery store rather than drive. Instead of using an elevator, climb the stairs up to a few floors before taking a lift. And instead of sitting for long hours at your office table, stand up at hourly intervals to walk around the office and engage in some activity.

In short, seize every opportunity to be active. The little amounts of calories burned by those activities can add up to a significant total.

By implementing these tips regularly, you’ll be able to maintain a healthy weight — even if you don’t have time for regular exercise.
